Bethesda Attempts to ‘Define Doom Multiplayer’ In New Video

September 11, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

Old footage, new commentary.

Bethesda today released a new video that was recorded during E3 a few months ago on Bethesda’s stage that goes into a bit of detail on Doom’s multiplayer and shows off some multiplayer in action.

The video shows the exact same highlight reel from Bethesda’s E3 2015 press conference, but with commentary from global content lead Gary Steinman, executive producer Marty Stratton, general manager Garrett Young, and art director Hugo Martin. Stratton mentions some of the modes that will be in Doom when it launches next year, such as Domination, a team-based mode; Clan Arena, a popular mode from Quake Live; and Freeze Tag, which has been around for a while.

At E3 this year, Bethesda also spoke about Doom SnapMap, which gives players modding tools for them to create their own multiplayer maps and modes and share them with other players across the internet. These mods will show up on Bethesda.net, a new platform for all mods from Bethesda titles, like Doom and Fallout 4.

Late last month, vice president of PR and marketing Pete Hines spoke about how the company believes Doom will stand out from other multiplayer first-person shooters.

"It has some old-school sensibilities but it is doing it in a very modern, fresh next-gen way," he said. "The multiplayer is not your traditional first-person shooter multiplayer. It is not one shot and the other guy is dead, it is not about who has the fastest trigger finger or reactions.”

Doom, which will also feature a single-player component, is expected to be out next year on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
