It’s not clear how deep the crossover between Final Fantasy and WWE fans goes, but Final Fantasy fans who watched last night’s Monday Night Raw will certainly have caught two Easter Eggs played by wrestler Xavier Woods (A.K.A. Austin Creed) on his trombone.
That’s right. Xavier Woods played the Final Fantasy “Victory Theme” on his trombone during last night’s Raw twice. The first instance can be heard at the 33-second mark in this video clip below:
The second instance was during an actual wrestling match, but was cut from WWE’s clip of the match on YouTube. Kotaku editor-in-chief Stephen Totillo managed to record the moment off-camera using his phone, presumably. It’s the same familiar tune, but used as a taunting mechanic during an actual wrestling match between Seth Rollins & The New Day, of which Woods is a team member, and John Cena & Prime Time Players.
It should come as no surprise to those that subscribe to Woods’ video game YouTube channel, Up Up Down Down, where Woods and other WWE celebrities play video games for your amusement. Like this video of Woods and others playing Street Fighter 4, tournament-style.
Woods also made this tweet prior to the airing of last night’s Monday Night Raw.
We've got materia for days 😉 – side note, we are pretty much the Knights of the round #FinalFantasy7 #TromboneIsLife

Materia for days, indeed.
