Street Fighter is a franchise that has been around since 1987 and it quickly established itself as one of the giants in the fighting game space. Over the years, Capcom has introduced a variety of beloved playable characters, including Fei Long, a fighter that was directly inspired by Bruce Lee. However, a report from VG247 highlights a recent Q&A video from Street Fighter V composer, Daniel Lindholm, where he reveals that Fei Long won’t be making a return in future Street Fighter titles.
You can watch the full video below, where Lindholm answers a variety of different questions regarding the music in Street Fighter V.
This topic came up when the composer was answering a question about Karen’s theme, and according to Lindholm, this is attributed to the Lee family’s recent change of heart regarding humorous depictions of the famous martial artist. He said:
“I do have other sources, not only [from] Capcom, but friends of mine in the U.S., who are very close friends with the Lee family. They have basically said that any kind of resemblance to Mr. Bruce Lee is now omitted for comedic effect. It needs to be honourable. That’s why we won’t see Fei Long again. Ever.”
Capcom has yet to confirm if this information is true or false, but they responded to a question asked by VG247, stating that “We do not comment on rumor and/or speculation.” It looks like we will have to wait to see if this information is true in future instalments. However, fans can look forward to Street Fighter 6, which was announced via a countdown teaser trailer in February. Capcom then confirmed on Twitter that more information about the game will be arriving sometime in Summer 2022.
