There has been quite the collection of games set in Middle-earth over the years – some better than others – but if they keep releasing them, then we’ll just keep playing them, such is the huge love for the franchise. Well, today it was announced that EA is working on a Lord of the Rings mobile game that will be a free-to-play collectible RPG entitled The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth.
EA has been pretty hush-hush about any more details so far; there is no premise information, pictures, or artwork – apart from the one above that is. Now, it is common knowledge that mobile gaming has its limitations, but the sound of a collectible type of game could very well be the ideal scenario because that genre of gaming usually thrives on the mobile platform
This new Lord of the Rings mobile game is being made in partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises as the above image might suggest. According to Fredrica Drotos, who is the chief brand and licensing officer for Middle-earth Enterprises, the game is looking to be completely inspired by Middle-earth in all its representations.
However, all is not lost in terms of the information available because there are some things that we can bring you. Heroes of Middle-earth will apparently feature “immersive storytelling, turn-based combat, a deep collection system, and a wide roster of characters” that are to hail from both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. And the gameplay, well, what we know is that it will involve battles across various known stories from all of Tolkien’s world-famous works and will also come with social and competitive play.
Obviously, the details are scarce, so you will just have to wait for any more information that hopefully comes out in the not too distant future. But if you are desperate for your fix of Middle earth, then don’t forget that the prequel series Rings of Power will be hitting Amazon Prime in September.
