The concept of the Nintendo Direct is so simple it’s honesty surprising that no one did it before Nintendo. And yet, as they started to ween away from events like E3 and the Tokyo Game Show, they decided to deliver news Direct-ly…to you. And thus, the Directs were born, and due to that, and the major announcements that seem to come with every single Direct, many are eager for when the next one will be. To that end, we may have an announcement on that front.
On a special forum, industry insider Emily Rogers noted whether fans liked “indie games”, seemingly indicating that an Indie Games Showcase (a spinoff of the Directs) may be happening soon. And if that is the case, then that’s great, as Nintendo has been doing a really good job of making things work with their indie partners.
Now, for those who want a Nintendo Direct proper, you might not have to wait for that much longer either. Why do we say that? Because, Nintendo has more times than not done a Direct in June to coincide with E3. Even with E3 2022 being canceled, Nintendo is likely to do a Direct (much like they did in 2021) to help showcase what they have coming with their Summer titles, and reveal more about their fall and winter games.
This would work out due to Splatoon 3 coming out in September, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 coming out in July, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet likely coming out in November. And one would bet that Nintendo has an ace or two up their sleeves, including maybe release dates for 3rd party titles for Bayonetta 3 and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.
So while this isn’t a full-on confirmation, it is something to be hopeful about, and that’s something.
