The Avengers have their own unique skills, personalities, and powers, but today we have an interesting story about Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Cumberbatch’s first time on screen as Doctor Strange was in 2016, and then turned around and had two big Avengers team-up films in 2018’s Infinity War and 2019’s Endgame. Quickly Doctor Strange become a fan favorite because of his cool powers of Mystic Arts across all the movies he appeared in, but he also became friends and had interesting relationships with some of the Avengers.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, AKA, Iron Man, was one of the characters Doctor Strange was close to. Both males have huge egos which helped them work together to defeat Thanos from taking away the lives of almost everyone. Recently, it has come upon social media about how Cumberbatch was supposed to have his own moment as Iron man, which he almost got in his first Avengers movie.
More About Cumberbatch’s Iron Man Deleted Scene
Benedict Cumberbatch spoke on BBC Radio, and he shared about a moment with his Doctor Strange character and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. So he said, Mr. Strange was set to become Iron Man, just briefly, wearing Tony Stark’s suit, which then would combine the two heroes’ powers in battle against Thanos. This is a bit shocking considering only Pepper Potts, Tony’s love interest is the only other person in the MCU movies to have worn his suit. But the scene was deleted and wasn’t used in the final version of Infinity War.
The interviewer with BBC Radio asked if Benedict was annoyed that the scene didn’t make the final cut, he admitted in his answer that he would have loved to see the scene in the movie, Infinity War. However, Cumberbatch got the chance to wear the suit.
“Yes, I was a bit, we both were, it took a long time to splurge those spliced costumes together. It was an amazing moment, and I think I definitely came out of it better than ‘Iron Strange’ or ‘Doctor Man,’ the other guy, ‘Strange Man.’ I definitely came out of it better. I mean, having a bit of that outerwear on you, it’s like, it’s very, very, very cool. I would love to have seen what that combination of wizardry and that tech would do. Bring it on.”

What Would A Stark/Strange Hero Combo Look Like in the MCU?
The Avengers: Infinity War movie became one of Marvel Studio’s most successful and biggest movies, mainly because of the way it brought many of the MCU heroes together in one place, including both Tony Stark and Stephen Strange, and a scene like this would have combined their powers together which is something that hasn’t really happened before in the MCU.
In this scene Benedict Cumberbatch has talked about, it appears Tony would have donned the Cloak of Levitation while Strange wore his very own version of Tony’s Mark LV armor, and the suit design even had the Eye of Agamotto included on it for its own Doctor Strange tough in the place of the arc reactor Tony wears in his chest. It is a mystery how this magic and tech would have worked together.
With a scene such as this happening in the movie, it could have opened up many doors for a closer relationship between Tony and Stephen, which would have been cool to see. With the two first meeting in Central Park, then both learned about each other’s suits and their abilities to outdo Thanos. Could this maybe even have saved Tony in the end?
It seems that Cumberbatch was all-in on the idea of having another hero’s powers even for a short moment, and it could have been something really epic for fans to see. Whether something like this will happen in the future of the MCU is unknown, but a lot is now possible with Strange’s Multiverses becoming a big part of the Marvel universe.
