Speaking on a panel at PAX Prime last weekend, developer of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt CD Projekt Red teased new information coming for fans of Gwent, a card game found within the game.
When asked by a fan if CD Projekt Red would consider releasing a stand-alone version of Gwent in the future, senior writer Jakub Szamalek said there will be “good news for Gwent players coming up.”
Szamalek told the fan he would pass along the idea of a stand-alone version of Gwent to the team back in Warsaw, Poland.
At the time of The Witcher 3’s release in May, a physical version of Gwent was released as part of the Xbox One Collector’s Edition.
Earlier this month, The Witcher 3 received the last of its free DLC as part of a plan to release 16 pieces of free DLC over the course of eight weeks following the game’s release. As part of that free DLC was a New Game Plus mode, extending the life of a game with potentially hundreds of hours of gameplay already. CD Projekt Red hopes that they can set a standard for DLC being free rather than monetized. That said, the developer also has plans to release two expansions for The Witcher 3 that will be monetized.
