Genshin Impact Still Under Development for Nintendo Switch

May 6, 2022 by Carley Garcia

Don’t worry, it hasn’t been cancelled.

This week, it was announced that Genshin Impact has surpassed $3 billion in global lifetime player spending across Google Play and the App Store since its launch on September 28, 2020. The game has managed to bring in $1 billion every six months, with PC and console players also getting in on the gacha action. One popular console, however, doesn’t support the massively popular Chinese game just yet. Thankfully, MiHoYo has released a statement on the long-awaited Nintendo Switch port, which was confirmed back in 2020.

GoNintendo reached out to the development team for a statement, and while the response is short and sweet, it’s more than welcome after no news has emerged in almost two years.

“The Switch version is still in development, and we will release more information as we progress further along,” said Xin Yang, MiHoYo’s global PR specialist. No release window was mentioned.

In recent weeks, a number of official Genshin Impact trailers lacked a mention of the Nintendo Switch in the YouTube description, causing concern in the community that the planned port had been canceled.

Prior to the game’s release in 2019, MiHoYo announced a Nintendo Switch version was underway. “The Switch version of Genshin Impact is currently under development,” miHoYo’s head of communication Sam Lai said. “More information regarding Switch beta testing and launch dates will be announced at a later time.”

Fans of the title were recently dismayed to find the game’s next update has been delayed following new lockdowns in Shanghai, where Genshin Impact’s developer is based. Two new characters–Yelan and Kuki Shinobu–are expected to be added in Update 2.7. Five-star Cryo character Kamisato Ayaka is currently seeing a rerun, and players hoping to add her to their roster will have a chance to do so until the next update is ultimately revealed.

Genshin Impact is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and mobile devices. The Nintendo Switch version of the game is currently in development, and no release window has been announced.
