FIFA 22 Cross-Play Test Coming To Xbox Series S/X, PS5 And Stadia

May 3, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

EA has confirmed that FIFA 22 will soon be getting support for online cross-play across different gaming systems. Up until now, the massively popular football sim has only been playable on the system players purchased the game for. This meant that players on different consoles haven’t been able to team up or oppose one another online. In a recently released update, however, EA has confirmed that they plan to test out cross-play functionality in an upcoming test session.

Although this is good news, the cross-play test will be limited to certain platforms and certain game modes only. EA has stipulated that it will only be available to players on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia versions of FIFA 22. This is a great window of opportunity for Stadia gamers, in particular, to get into online multiplayer gaming a bit more. It is a bit of a shame for those playing on Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch or PlayStation 4, however, as no mention of cross-play support for last-gen platforms, Switch or for PC players has been made.

In addition, the test will only work in the Online Seasons and Online Friendlies modes of the game. This is apparently to minimise the potential for “new issues” to be introduced into the game, and to provide the best level of user data and feedback so that EA can learn how to potentially implement full cross-play into “future titles”.

There’s no specific date been given as yet for when the cross-play test will launch in FIFA 22. EA has, however, provided further details for how players can opt-in to the test once it is activated. We’ll be keeping an ear to the ground to find out a planned date for the test to go live. You can read more on the official update post at EA’s FIFA 22 website.

FIFA 22 is available now on Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC and Google Stadia.
