Riot Games has announced that they're kicking off a limited beta for the new Dominion mode in their popular free-to-play MOBA game, League of Legends. Rather than allowing a select few users to play the new gametype, Riot has instead opted to schedule "testing windows" during off-peak hours that will be accessible to everyone online.
The downside of this approach is that there's essentially no way to know in advance when you'll be able to get in on the beta. Instead, you'll have to watch the game's official forums, where the developer will make an announcement every time a testing window opens.
Dominion mixes up the traditional DOTA-inspired gameplay of League of Legends. The mode features the same team-based, hero-driven combat, but introduces a new primary objective. Rather than attempting to push your way into the enemy base to destroy their buildings, you'll instead be tasked with capturing and holding strategic control points around a circular map.
The DOTA community has been slow to accept new maps in the past, but Dominion is surrounded by an uncommon amount of hype. It'll be interesting to see how things develop after the update's release. Riot has yet to provide an exact date for the launch, but they've been assuring fans for the last few weeks that it's coming very soon.
