Hideo Kojima’s final Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain trailer has been released.
Although Kojima intended this for public consumption, the trailer comes with huge spoilers, so if you don’t want anything revealed early, you should stop right now.
As implied by the title, the trailer reminiscingly goes through the previous Metal Gear Solid games, from the saga with Snake and Meryl, to the story involving Raiden, the tale of Old Snake and The Boss, all the way through Snake’s final battles. The trailer also includes a glimpse at Raiden’s side story, and even gives us a peek of the young Pacifica Ocean, most famously known as Paz Ortega Andrade.
Old Snake is shown at the end of this reverie, walking down the hallway. As his face progressively gets bloodied, and a spike forms near the right side of his head, it is heavily implied that Snake becomes Skullface, a seemingly contradictory notion, but longtime fans know is de rigeur for the series.
In the middle of the trailer, Old Snake is shown facing off against the greatest and largest Metal Gear the franchise has ever seen, possibly at the scale of a Combiner Devastator. Metal Gear Sahelanthropus is described as an Anthropoid Bipedal Weapon System. Standing upright with four limbs, and brandishing a whip sword, Sahelanthropus is described as the missing link that completes the saga.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be released on September 1 on Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
