2K Sports’ Mike Stauffer has explained why they made changes to the roster system of NBA 2K16.
Stauffer may have felt the need to comment after the changes led to not only criticism from fans, but r4eactions from the players themselves. While one of the Boston Celtics’ greatest, Isaiah Thomas, was not pleased with his 81 rating, active Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside is satisfied that he has received the exact same rating.
The rationale should not be a surprise if you’ve been playing for a while. As Stauffer puts it, it’s everyone’s favorite word: cheese. Cheese, which occurs due to inflated individual attributes, among other things, prompted the change that ranks every active player against the league’s all time greats.
For this reason, Michael Jordan is the only player standing at 99, and other players strive to match up to him. However, these star players from the NBA’s past have received adjustments too, but it really is all for the better.
As Stauffer points out, in previous games NBA MVPs could sweep through the competition without much effort. Now, you would now have to use James Harden’s ability to score on the Free Throw line, instead of just cheesing through the mid-range jumper, on which he can no longer play as well.
It’s perhaps this change that’s leading some NBA 2K players to cry foul, but you have to admit, this is a solid case for change. Would you be willing to give NBA 2K16 with the new rating system a try? Were you enjoying the previous games since you were the one doing the cheesing after all?
