The latest episode of Bethesda’s developer diary series Into The Starfield has dropped on YouTube and this time, the devs are exploring music and audio. Titled ‘The Sound Of Adventure’, the video, which was released earlier today by Bethesda, is almost seven minutes long and features a deep dive into the upcoming space exploration game’s score and audio design.
Featured in the new clip are Bethesda Game Studios Audio Director Mark Lampert and Starfield Composer Inon Zur. The two discuss at length the motivations behind their use of music and audio design in the much-anticipated sci-fi RPG, with composer Zur describing the game’s music as being “the fourth dimension, the emotional dimension”.
It’s also revealed in the video that the music and audio design for the game came pretty early on in the initial stages of development, around the time of the initial concept art creation. “The main theme sets the tone,” explains Lampert, “for everything else we do in the game.” Both Lampert and Zur also explain how the creation and setting of the main musical theme is both the biggest challenge and the main benchmark, audio-wise, with everything else fitting in around this in iterative stages afterwards.

The video is the third episode in the Into The Starfield series, which has been giving fans a closer look at various aspects of the development of Starfield so far. The previous episodes, ‘The Endless Pursuit’ and ‘Made For Wanderers’ have explored aspects of development centred around the game’s character and NPC creation as well as the foundation for the game’s premise. With this latest episode, it’s clear that Bethesda is starting to ramp up the hype around their newest IP ahead of its projected release in November this year.
Starfield is expected to release on November 11th on Xbox Series S/X and PC.
