The classical music festival the BBC Proms has announced that this year they will be including a gaming segment at their world-famous music concert. This will be the very first inclusion of video game music at the event, and all we can say to that is… it’s about time.
Now, if you’re like us, then you’re someone who loves the elegant music that comes with certain games; the addition of the perfect music ensemble really does transport you into the game, offering another, more immersive gaming experience than one with no music. Games like The Witcher: Wild Hunt or the Zelda franchise are just a couple of examples of when the score becomes so unforgettable that it elevates the game to another level.
The BBC Proms concert will take place on August the 1st, 2022, at the Royal Albert Hall, which is in London, and the segment will feature music from a plethora of video games like Kingdom Hearts, Dear Esther, Battlefield 2042, and Shadow of the Colossus, the latter of which has some of the most memorable music in gaming history.
Not only that but there has also been a list of composers confirmed to appear on this night at the proms: conductor Robert Ames, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Sam Slater, Jessica Curry, Yoko Shimomura, and Kow Otani will all be waving their wands over a magical evening that hopes to be the beginning of a long and fruitful segment of the show.
As usual, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be accompanying the performers, and the full program details will be revealed at a later date, so keep an eye out for that. This is an event that will be well worth catching for a lot of you gamers out there, you’ll be able to listen to some of the most iconic pieces of music in gaming history in their full glory, as they were meant to be heard.
