Hideo Kojima Reportedly Working On A PlayStation 5 Game

April 25, 2022 by Ophelie Castelot

The developer of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding is working on a new project.

According to a recent tweet published by Hideo Kojima himself, the developer could be working on a PlayStation 5 game.

The image shows what could be the new office of Kojima Productions. Among the various screens and tables filling the room, one interesting detail: a PlayStation 5 Dev Kit.

Kojima Productions is best known for its work on Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding. The studio was first established as a subsidiary of Konami, before becoming independent in 2015. Kojima Productions has been working on a new game since October 2020 but didn’t reveal much about it yet.

Kojima Productions is seemingly not working on an Xbox exclusive game

Hideo Kojima and his studio already announced working on an Xbox project. But today is the first hint at a possible PlayStation 5 game from the studio. While the news of Kojima Productions working on a new game is not a surprise, this photo reveals the studio is not signing an exclusivity deal with Microsoft.

The rumor of Kojima working on an Xbox exclusive game has been going around for over a year now. Hideo Kojima and Microsoft signed a letter of intent about a publishing agreement for a new Xbox game. The two parties spent months discussing a possible partnership and even got their lawyers to prepare that letter of intent. This Xbox exclusive game from Kojima was supposed to run on Microsoft’s cloud gaming services.

Of course, Hideo Kojima using the PlayStation 5 Dev Kit doesn’t mean the Xbox deal is off the table. It may just hint that Kojima’s upcoming game won’t be a Microsoft exclusive, just like Death Stranding. This game was only available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Microsoft may want to get Kojima’s latest game on Xbox Series X and S, while not preventing the studio from developing the game on other platforms.
