The Guardians of the Galaxy films have surprised a lot of people in a lot of ways, not the least of which is with the incredible casting that they’ve done from top to bottom. As well as giving shots to people whom you wouldn’t expect to be perfect in the roles they got. Such as with Karen Gillian, who plays Nebula, sister to Gamora and daughter to Thanos. She was known mostly for Doctor Who before GOTG, but now she is one of the best parts of the franchise.
And she will be back for the third GOTG movie, and notes that the events of Endgame will weigh on her:
“One of the most interesting things about Nebula for me was her relationship with her father and sister,” the actor said in an interview. “And now that her father, Thanos, has been eliminated, he was the source of all of her torment and abuse. It’s really interesting to explore how this character starts to heal and who this character starts to become now that the threat that was always looming over her is gone. So I’ve been having a lot of fun with that.”
Indeed, and as she also noted, her character is the “gift that keeps on giving” due to how Nebula has changed so much over the course of the films she’s been in. She was a single-minded threat in the first film and a half, then slowly morphed into a hero, and by the time that Endgame’s five-year jump came about, she was a full-on member of the Avengers in various ways. Even killing her past self (somehow…) to save the day.
So given all that, you can see why Karen Gillian loves this character and wants to play her for as long as possible, and she might just depending on what happens next.
