Pedro Pascal, also known as Mando in The Mandalorian and Joel in the upcoming The Last of Us HBO show, recently sat down for an interview with GQ where he discussed the highly-anticipated post-apocalyptic series. Pascal excitingly said that the new series based on the popular video game is “really made for the people that love” The Last of Us.
The actor, who has previously been known as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones, said about the new series, “There’s a very, very creative way of honoring what’s important and also preserving what is iconic to the experience of the video game, and also [to include] things that you wouldn’t necessarily expect.” Adding, “They’re doing some really smart things, is all I can say. It’s similar to the way Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni treat The Mandalorian, in how [Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann] are treating The Last of Us — it’s in good hands because they love it so much… So it really is made for the people that love it.” The comparison to The Mandalorian is sure to excite fans as the Star Wars show almost breathed new life into the franchise and made fans out of those who otherwise were uninterested in the space opera.
The Last of Us co-showrunner Craig Mazin has previously shared that the HBO series is aiming to not “undo” the story originally told by the game. Both Mazin and co-creator Neil Druckmann have been working closely with the game’s developers Naughty Dog to create a TV adaptation that will please long-time fans.
Pascal shared that he attempted to play The Last of Us game himself, saying about the experience, “It’s so sad, I haven’t any skill. I tried, you know. And then it was only a matter of minutes before I had to hand it over to my nephew. It really takes a specific kind of skill, and I don’t have it.”
The Last of Us series is currently planned to release in 2023, keep an eye out for it!
