Fire Emblem as a franchise has gone from being just a “nice Japanese RPG” to one of Nintendo’s most important properties. Especially after the success of Fire Emblem Heroes on mobile which continues to rake in money hand over fist. Also, their last mainline title in Fire Emblem Three Houses was both a major hit unit sales-wise, but won many an award. So it wasn’t too much of a surprise per se when Nintendo unveiled a new spin on things via Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes at the last Nintendo Direct.
Fire Emblem fans know that there was a previous Warriors title out in 2017. One that acted as a “universal merger” story (not unlike Spider-Man No Way Home). But it lacked certain things that made it truly special, not unlike the original Hyrule Warriors title. But, like Age of Calamity, Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes seems to be changing that and learning from past mistakes to make it a much grander title. Which is proven in the new story trailer that you can see above.
Because here, we see very much how different things are this time around, including playing a brand new protagonist who was “meant to be lost to the waves of history”, and yet is going to be in conflict with Byleth (referred to solely here as the “Ashen Demon”) all the while taking their place at Garreg Mach Monastery and being friends with the students there.
Three Hopes also has a three-story branch that you will pick where to go and who to ally yourself with. We furthermore get glimpses at whom you can play with and alongside including Hubert, Hilda, Dedue, and teases of others like Mercedes, Flayn, and more.
You can tell that this is going to be a very big game full of action, tactics, and fun, and you’ll get to enjoy it on June 24th.
