“Who exactly is Rico Rodriguez?” is a question that developer Avalanche Studios wants to answer in Just Cause 3.
In a new behind-the-scenes video, developers at Avalanche Studios speak on how telling the story of Rico will differ from the series’ previous two entries, namely that Rico will actually have more of a personality.
“In the first game he was more of a mumbling idiot,” founder and CCO of Avalanche Studios Christopher Sundberg said. “We did that deliberately actually. We did want to tone down his persona and let the world be the character and that’s sort of been the character of the Just Cause games until now.”
They also speak on how much more they have been able to accomplish with modern computing technology in PCs and consoles and how that plays into bringing the character of Rico and the world he is in to life better than they have before.
“We probably have over 2,500 animations now for a single character, but he’s a complex character,” game director Roland Lesterlin said. “He can do anything, anytime, and we wanted to ensure that responsiveness was still a part of that. I pull the trigger, I’m always shooting – no matter what state I’m in. What it means is you get perfectly fluid experience through the world.”
Just Cause 3 will be available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on Dec. 1.
