Today is Bloodborne’s anniversary, 7 years since that hugely popular game was released on PlayStation – doesn’t time go quickly when your battling fiendish monsters and otherworldly beings. With Elden Ring taking up most people’s time at the minute (as it should be), it is the perfect moment to look back at what some people consider to be the best game to come out of FromSoftware – that might just be the boldest statement of the day.
Let us take you back, the year is 2015 and you are fresh from destroying yourself after playing Dark Souls 1 and 2. The rumors about FromSoftware bringing out a new game are doing the rounds on the internet and your interest is now well and truly perked. What developed was a visually striking game with incredible gameplay, and still possessing that unruly difficulty that has been a staple in all the studio’s games past and present.
Bloodborne is a work of art of the highest order; the eerie atmosphere, the haunting sound design, those Lovecraftian themes, and an extraordinary design of the very world you have been sent to explore. By the end of 2015, Bloodborne had sold over two million copies worldwide, it won several awards and is considered by many to be one of the greatest games of all time.
The success of the game also led to a variety of adaptations, with card games, board games, and a comic book series being released in its wake. There were even rumors (which have since died off) of a possible T.V. series – now that would have been a sight to behold. Going by the prolific rate at which FromSoftware releases their games – especially the Dark Souls sequels – 7 years seems like a long time without any inkling of another Bloodborne being released. The fans want it, the fans deserve it, the logical thing would be to succumb to their wishes and make an announcement about a sequel already, or even a remastered version of this game for next-gen consoles – the very thought of that is getting us excited – but for now, just celebrate Bloodborne’s anniversary with another playthrough.
