My feeble grasp of Japanese might prevent me from understanding the nuances of the new trailer for Anarachy Reigns (known as Max Anarchy in Japan), but I think it's safe to say that badassery looks the same in any language. This new glimpse of the third-person action brawler gives us a slew of character vignettes interspersed with in-game action and some mildly perplexing cutscenes.
Honestly, there are probably more questions than answers here. Why is Jack from MadWorld comforting that grieving widow in a graveyard? Is that some kind of giant cyborg squid? Why don't I own a pair of profanity-emblazoned gold fronts? Man, I really should’ve paid more attention back in high school.
Confusion aside, it looks like Platinum Games is putting together a solid beat ‘em up that’s well worthy of their pedigree. The studio previously worked on Bayonetta, Vanquish, and MadWorld, with that last game contributing several of its characters to the Anarchy Reigns roster (in full color, to boot).
Sega will be bringing Anarchy Reigns to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime in January 2012.
