Game developers Hello There Games have officially announced that Kung Fury: Street Rage – Ultimate Edition will be coming to Nintendo Switch soon. The company released a new trailer for the game based on the adapted action movie. The game was originally released as part of a marketing campaign for the 2015 film, Kung Fury and the Nintendo Switch release will include an expansion, adding new characters and a co-op mode. Check out the trailer below.
The Kung Fury film paid homage to 1980s martial arts and police action films. The indie movie quickly gained a cult following after beginning as a crowdfunded project through Kickstarter, with the game releasing alongside the film. Kung Fury: Street Rage – Ultimate Edition features the lead from the movie, detective Kung Fury with a surprise appearance from 80s legend David Hasselhoff.
According to Hello There Games, “The smash-hit indie movie Kung Fury took the world by storm with its 80s feel, cheesy punch lines, and fun characters. To boost the movie launch, we developed and released the arcade-style game Kung Fury: Street Rage back in the day.” Adding, “We are now back again with a new expansion, A Day at the Beach. The third installment of the Kung Fury beat ‘em up saga brings you the heaviest punch in the history of nazi-beating! David Hasselhoff as a playable hero! 2-player co-op! Brand new stages!”
Hello There Games CEO Oskar Eklund promised, “This release is close to a full new game. With so many new features, I think it’s fair to say that Christmas came early this year.” The new game, along with the new trailer has an incredibly nostalgic feel and is great for fans of 80s arcade-style games.
Unfortunately, there is no release date for Kung Fury: Street Rage – Ultimate Edition on Nintendo Switch just yet, but developers have said it’s “coming soon.” The original game and its new expansion are also available on PC via Steam now.
