Airscape: The Fall of Gravity Is A Dizzyingly Charming Platformer

July 23, 2015 by Vanessa Lopa

A squid’s life is tough, especially after it’s been kidnapped by a mechanical alien race.

Airscape: The Fall of Gravity is a dizzyingly charming platformer that involves an octopus, a dangerous world, and some pretty crazy physics. The adorable graphics belie the game’s complex stages, following in the footsteps of titles such as VVVVVV, 1001 Spikes, and Super Meat Boy.

Players will control a Dumbo Octopus in its quest to save its family from the mechanical alien race. You must make your way through stunning environments, navigating the water formations and islands while avoiding obstacles and robotic terrors. You’ll really need to use your brain for this one, since there’s no fighting at all – you’re but a wee octopus, after all.

You’ll wander through 18 zones and over 60 different levels, which shouldn’t be too difficult with the tight controls that'll allow you to seamlessly transition from swimming in suspended bodies of water to running(? Can squids run?) on islands. Judging by the trailer, Airscape will be equal parts fun and frustrating, and probably physically taxing (on your thumbs). It’s a good thing they included a nice soundtrack to help you keep your cool.

“Our whole team couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming launch. We’ve been working tirelessly for almost four years on a game that’s visually and aurally beautiful,” said lead designer and programmer Daniel West. They’ve designed the game to be challenging enough for platforming enthusiasts, but not so intimidating as to shut out people who enjoy a challenge and a nice view to go with it.

Airscape: The Fall of Gravity is set to launch on Steam on August 11 for PC, Mac, and Linux.
