Troy Baker, the voice actor responsible for the roles of innumerable main characters in video games, has been driven off Twitter after he quoted a joke someone else made that referenced Caitlyn Jenner.
Quoting a tweet by writer Brian W. Foster, the joke poked fun at the appearance of singer-songwriter Bret Michaels. He wrote:
“Brett Michaels looks like Mickey Rourke tried to become Caitlyn Jenner.” – @BrianWFoster
Baker's detractors took issue with the fact that a joke was made to reference Caitlyn Jenner, which they deemed transphobic. An acquaintance explained to me that using a trans woman's appearance as a benchmark for a man's looks is transmisogynistic.
Responding to criticism, Baker wrote, "It's a shame when there are people who would much rather choose to be offended than laugh."
He followed it up with, "I quit Twitter."
Looking through his mentions, it's easy to see why he chose to leave the social media platform.
Regardless of the fact that Baker was simply retweeting somebody else's joke, Baker was harshly criticized for it. Some of his critics even went as far as to call him a "piece of shit" and tell him to kill himself.
Whether or not you found the joke offensive, it's no excuse for the harassment Troy Baker received.
