Fans of Harry Potter have been begging for an open-world game for decades. Since Hogwarts Legacy was first unveiled in September 2020, aspiring wizards the world over have been desperate for more news regarding its release and gameplay. Today, PlayStation took to Twitter to announce that a State of Play presentation exclusively centered around the title is scheduled for this Thursday, March 17 at 2 PM PST.
According to the PlayStation blog, the stream will give fans the first in-depth look at Hogwarts Legacy gameplay.
“The show will run for about 20 minutes, featuring over 14 minutes of Hogwarts Legacy gameplay captured on PS5, and concluding with some insight from a few members of the team at Avalanche Software who are bringing the Wizarding World to life,” the blog post reads.
Hogwarts Legacy will be set in the late 1800s, and players will be allowed to choose their Hogwarts House and attend classes. The title is open-world and will also include notable locales like the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village. As students at the prestigious magical school, players will learn spells, brew potions, tame magical beasts, and master unique combat abilities. Legacy will include a morality system, and characters will be highly customizable.
The blog post also notes that the reveal trailer for the game has been viewed over 28 million times on the PlayStation YouTube channel.
“This is an incredible moment that we’ve been building towards for a long time. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on,” said community manager Chandler Wood.
It’s possible that a concrete release date will be unveiled during the State of Play stream this week. Earlier this year, the official Harry Potter website confirmed that the game would be released in 2022 despite rumors of a 2023 delay.
Hogwarts Legacy will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
