John Smedley of President of Daybreak Game Company has deleted his Twitter and reddit accounts. Known for his outspoken nature, Smedley, formerly Sony Online Entertainment, was recently involved in heated arguments against the notorious hacker group Lizard Squad.
Smedley spoke out against Julius Kivimaki, a Lizard Squad member convicted for, among many things, calling in a bomb threat on a plane Smedley was on, forcing it to land. Smedley's comments earned him the ire of the remaining members of the group, which DDOSed the company's game servers for H1Z1 and Planetside 2.
Smedley explained to puzzled gamers that he was deleting his Twitter account because it was distracting him from what he really likes doing–making video games. He regrets that he will miss interacting with players, however.
"I walked away from Twitter of my own choice," he wrote.
"I really love making games. It makes me happy. I saw Twitter as a great way to talk 1-1 with players which I love doing. I'm simply not going to let this make me lose focus….but I am going to walk away from Twitter and not miss it for a second. Life's too short to let things distract me from what I really like doing. I will miss the interaction with our players though. A great deal."
Smedley's reddit account disappeared shortly thereafter.
