The Call of Duty franchise has been set in World War II, the modern day era, and lately, the future. It won't however ever be set in space.
Speaking to GamesRadar, Treyarch's Dan Bunting, multiplayer director of the upcoming Black Ops 3, said that Activision will stick to settings that aren't out of this world in their future iterations of the series.
"The way that we approach the creative on our game? I don't think we're ever going to reach a point where we just completely ignore finding authenticity," Bunting said.
"There’s an element of Call Of Duty as a brand that’s very gritty, it needs to feel believable. Even if it’s not real it needs to feel like it could be," he said. "I don't think we’re ever going to reach a point where we just completely ignore finding authenticity to try and ground the world and make it feel believable."
While Call of Duty may introduce exo-suits and other futuristic concepts, don't expect Call of Duty to take place on the surface of Pluto any time soon. Maybe in 2100.
