After much anticipation, Disney has finally released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming Disney+ series due to premiere later this year: Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Star Wars show is a project several years in the making, originally meant to be a movie before becoming a multi-episode series. Obi-Wan Kenobi will see Ewan Mcgregor reprise his role as the titular character, much to the delight of Star Wars fans everywhere. Check out the brand new teaser trailer below.
According to Disney, “The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader. Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.”
Although the new trailer is simply a ‘teaser’, there’s a lot to unpack here. The short feature starts out on Tatooine with Kenobi watching over young Luke Skywalker at a distance, binoculars and all. From there, the perspective shifts to that of the Empire on the hunt for the last remaining Jedi. Ominous voice-over can be heard saying “The key to hunting Jedi…is patience.” Unfortunately, Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader did not make an appearance in the trailer but a new Sith-in-the-making appears to be on the hunt for Obi-Wan. The formidable woman appears to get pretty close to catching the fan-favorite Jedi Master.
The new show has been called a “limited series” by Disney+, similar to some of the recent Marvel mini-series. Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on May 25, 2022.
