There are certain gaming franchises out there that you look at and go, “I’m honestly surprised that made it”. Mainly because when you think about them, or explain them, they don’t sound that compelling, but once you get involved in the games themselves, you see why they sell. The Sly Cooper franchise is a great example of this. This very colorful take on the world of thieves started out on PS2 with three very fun entries, them came back for a fourth title on the PS3 where they went throughout time. But since then, they’ve been silent.
But now, rumors are swirling that not only will Sly Cooper return, but it’ll return on the PS5, which means that this will look the best it can be given the incredible power of the system. But…as of yet, the game hasn’t been announced or even hinted at by Sony. So when are we possibly going to hear something? The answer to that comes from an insider, who not only claimed that Sly Cooper and Infamous are coming back, but that the Sly game will be announced in the second half of this year.
Why is that important? Because the first Cooper title came out in September 2002, meaning that we’re fast approaching the 20th anniversary of the Sly franchise. A perfect time to go and announce a fifth title, wouldn’t you say?
Of course, then the question becomes, what kind of game do they make? The thieves have been all over the world, fought all kinds of foes, delved deep into the Cooper history, and even the timeline itself! So where do they go from here?
We don’t know, and that’s exciting. But as long as they have the Cooper Gang intact mixed with the great gameplay and story style we know and love? It’s going to be hard not to enjoy it whenever it arrives.
