CyberConnect2 producer Hiroshi Matsuyama and Bandai Namco producer Miho Nakagawa share new details on Naruto Storm 4 thanks to a new interview.
The story mode will be 10 hours long, much like Naruto Storm 3. The game will be longer overall thanks to unannounced modes and features.
Cyberconnect 2 has not made final decisions on how much of Boruto they will add to the story mode yet. Actually, they were very fortunate to be given permission to use Naruto The Last and Boruto, when they only had the Shippuden license.
The TAG system will be available on Story, Online, and free battles. This system will allow you to play as a group of three characters, and switch between them freely, even letting you switch who the leader is. Because of the way the story is set up, some segments have to be one character only, but you will get to use TAG system a lot in the story nonetheless.
Speaking of the story, Naruto Storm 4 picks up where Naruto Storm 3 left off, but Cyberconnect is also looking into adding as much backstory as possible. They are still choosing this content, but these flashbacks have to be relevant to the events of Naruto Storm 4.
There are no plans for after launch content yet, but they will likely not repeat costume DLC the way they did in Naruto Storm 3.
This leader change ability means support characters can use awakening and secret techniques. As a result, all playable characters have these techniques. Naruto Storm 4 will also have link awakening, which combines the three awakening techniques from each playable character. There will aslo be combination secret jutsu, a special secret technique unique to each two characters.
Cyberconnect2 is working on wall battles for Story mode, but nothing has been decided, so this is not yet a full confirmation it will be there.
Regarding the licensing arrangement, the Naruto The Last characters are unlockable, even if you don’t preorder or buy the game near launch. However, Boruto, Sarada, and the Kikaishi Sixth Hokage costume are all DLC exclusive.
There are currently no plans to add other characters from Naruto The Last. Most were background characters who did not make any relevant actions in the story.
Lastly, Cyberconnect 2 currently has no plans for the future after the Naruto manga’s recent ending. However, they continue to hold the Naruto franchise, which continues in comics form under Boruto. If Boruto becomes a hit like Naruto was, it’s likely Cyberconnect2 will make Boruto games in the future.
Naruto Storm 4 will be released on Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 2015.
