Crossbeats Rev. Is A New Capcom Rhythm Game, From DDR Composer Naoki Maeda

July 9, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Gameplay is simpler than in DJMax Technika, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.

Remember BeMaNi master composer Naoki Maeda? He’s back to arcades with a new music game called Crossbeats Rev.

Maeda left Konami in 2013 for Capcom, but in his stay with the company, he put most of a mark on the Dance Dance Revolution games. He composed the originals and renditions for most of the songs in the games, right up untilDance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA.

Crossbeats Rev. boasts a five speaker standing cabinet setup, along with a giant 32 inch touchscreen and a litany of glowing lights. Gameplay is comparable to, but simpler than DJMax Technika. Notes appear when lines intersect, for you to touch. Bold blue lines appear for notes you have to hold down. No need to worry about a scrolling screen, but you will have to pay close attention to those lines.

Just because I said the game is simpler, does not mean it is simple on its own. Check out this gameplay video to get an idea of what arcade players are in for.

True to form, Maeda is bringing his own songs and musical acts to Crossbeats Rev., including Terra, a band with Maeda and Junko Karashima, and other Maeda aliases like Reven-G and DE-SIRE. Outside of Maeda, Crossbeats Rev. will include songs from the likes of Glay, Babymetal, Bleeze, Vamps, Ijime Dame Zettai, and more.

Crossbeats Rev. is coming to Japanese arcades this July.
