Mojang and Telltale have released a teaser trailer for Minecraft: Story Mode during the Minecon 2015 conference in London today, where they also stated that the first episode is planned for release this year.
“It’s coming very soon,” Telltale's Job Stauffer commented. “At least the first episode you will play this year. We don’t know exactly when: it’s probably sooner than you think.”
Telltale is planning a five episode run initially and there will six characters: five humans and a pig, each of the humans is said to reflect certain characteristics of how players approach Minecraft today.
“We make adventure games based on the things that we love the most, where there are really passionate fanbases that we’re a part of. We want to make games for those fans, and us,” Stauffer said.
Telltale games are developed “kinda like television” he continued. “Our games are kinda like playable television as a matter of fact. As we make them we’re always looking at what the fans are saying, and what the reaction is. And sometimes we can tweak and adjust certain things about the games as we go along.”
Mojang's Owen Hill added that they wanted the story to “not just feel like you’re playing Minecraft as you do today, but we wanted it to exist in a place that felt familiar to people… you can see things within the game which remind you of the cool times you have when you play normally. But that said, it still exists in its own world.”
Minecraft: Story Mode was announced last December and is coming to PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS, and Android.
