Street Fighter 6 has been officially announced by Capcom. The game was announced following Capcom’s countdown clock that began last week. Street Fighter 6 had been rumored for months and Capcom previously confirmed that it would be announcing the game in 2022. Check out the trailer for the game below.
The teaser trailer doesn’t show off much about the game. Just a short clip of Luke and Ryu squaring up to each other. However, if the game looks as graphically good as the trailer suggests, fans will be in for a treat. Street Fighter V was originally released in 2016 so there’s been over half a decade of graphical improvements in gaming since then.
Unfortunately, Street Fighter fans will have to wait until the summer for any more news on the game. Capcom confirmed on Twitter that the teaser is all for now. In a reply to the trailer tweet, the company said, “More Street Fighter 6 news coming Summer 2022.” Presumably, that means fans will get to see more of the new game at E3 (if it goes ahead online) or at Summer Games Fest, which is confirmed to be going ahead.
It isn’t confirmed yet if Street Fighter 6 will be a PlayStation console exclusive, like its predecessor. Street Fighter V became a surprise PlayStation console exclusive, despite the previous games in the franchise being multiplatform. The exclusivity agreement details between Sony and Capcom weren’t revealed but it is assumed that Sony paid for the exclusivity in one way or another. No platforms were announced for Street Fighter 6 in the trailer so gamers will likely have to wait until the summer for that info too. That does leave it open to being multiplatform. It was also rumored last year that the game will be multiplatform but that remains to be seen.
