2K Sports has finally confirmed the large roster of WWE 2K16.
They have revealed that WWE 2K16 will have over 120 unique playable superstars. This includes the Divas, but it does not count the repeats of models, so the 5 John Cena models only count as one superstar.
This means WWE 2K16 will have the largest roster of any WWF/WWE game ever made. While it does not hold the record for most wrestlers in a single game (Fire Pro Wrestling Returns has a staggering 327 wrestlers), it’s a clear step up for the IP as a whole. Last year’sWWE 2K15 had 67 unique models, combining both and new wrestlers alike.
Now, the big question of the hour is just if the roster will be killer, or if will be filler. We can safely assume everyone in the last game is coming back for the new one, but given WWE’s active roster does not have that many wrestlers, including the NXT, the question arises where those other wrestlers will come from.
We know Mick Foley, and of course, CM Punk, will not be coming back. CM Punk’s separation from the WWE is well known, and although 2K Sports can negotiate this separately, it’s doubtful WWE would agree to it.
Mick’s objection is one that should give fans pause; he was unhappy from royalties of his prior Legends contract, and most of that money would have come from the transitional WWE ’14. For those who may not remember, this was the game 2K Sports inherited from THQ when they dissolved and all parties involved were scrambling to find a new publisher.
