Update: Square Enix reached out to us to say that the original story's release date was incorrect. They wrote: "We can confirm that the published release date for this title is incorrect. As discussed at this year’s E3, Final Fantasy VII will be ported to the PlayStation 4 in Winter 2015. The pricing has already been announced last December to be set at $15.99."
Square Enix's website has revealed that the port of the original version of Final Fantasy VII will be released on PS4 on October 16th.
The news comes despite the surprise announcement last week of Final Fantasy VII Remake during Sony's press conference. Square Enix says the game will be available for $15.99 and lists PC-only features including achievements and a character booster. Similar features have not yet been confirmed for PS4.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is likely some years away and the port, revealed during the PlayStation Experience last December, is a way to bridge the gap.
You can kind out more about the Remake here.
At E3 last week, Square Enix also showed off World of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy 15 was missing, however.
