The duration of the timed-exclusive content for Activsion’s next entry in the annualized first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, will last 30 days, according to Kotaku’s Stephen Totilo speaking to VP of publisher & developer relations at PlayStation Adam Boyes at E3 2015.
30 days was also the duration of the timed-exclusive deal that Activision previously held with Microsoft for the Xbox platform. This means that downloadable content (re: multiplayer map packs) for Black Ops 3 will be coming to PlayStation platforms first before any other platforms 30 days later.
At Sony’s E3 2015 press conference on Monday, Activision and developer Treyarch debuted a single-player campaign mission of Black Ops 3 before announcing that downloadable content would be coming to PlayStation platforms before others.
In an interview with Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg, Polygon asked what Greenberg thought of PlayStation now having the timed-exclusive content on their platforms, something that was traditionally on Xbox.
"We were expecting the announcement, obviously we have a great relationship with Activision, we have more people playing Call of Duty today on our platform than any other," Greenberg said.
"And if you think about it, if you're a shooter fan and want to play Halo and Call of Duty there's only one box to do it on," he told Polygon.
"You want to play Halo and Gears and Call of Duty. We think we'll continue to drive a lot of sales of Call of Duty on our platform, we already have pre-orders happening now for Black Ops 3, and we're going to support the title just like we would any other big third-party title."
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be released on November 6 , 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
