It took a while, but The Last Guardian has finally been confirmed for a 2016 launch. There were speculations that it wouldn’t be at E3 2015, but Sony pulled through and showed us a thing of beauty. The new trailer was breathtaking, a big jump forward from what we’d been shown back in E3 2009. We got to see more of the dynamic between Trico and the young boy who serves as his caretaker and guide.
Some may say that it’s amazing The Last Guardian exists at all, after nearly a decade in development. It seems like Sony wanted to give it a worthy online home, and have unveiled a new official website. The site emulates the same look and feel of the trailer, very serene with a hint of beautiful disorganization. We’re treated to a new screenshot, as well as some stunning key art. Check out the website for more hi-res desktop wallpaper-worthy stuff.
The site also alludes to a 2016 release window, but Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida admitted that they are actually not 100% sure of the game’s release in 2016. The game did have to make a jump from PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4, which meant that the development team had to start fresh. The game is already playable, which gave them the confidence to show it at E3 this year.
