DayZ creator Dean Hall is developing a virtual reality game for Valve’s Steam VR platform, he has confirmed to Eurogamer.
Asked specifically if he was working on VR, Hall said, “My studio RocketWerkz is, yeah.” The title is not space simulation game Ion, which was announced earlier this week during the Xbox E3 media briefing.
London-based tech firm Improbable is working with Hall on Ion, while RocketWerkz in his native New Zealand is “working on another game”.
“One, and a new one starting…” questioned about this other title, Hall began to say before being interrupted good-naturedly by Improbable’s Nick Button-Brown who continued, “You have one other project – that’s just kind of in your head that other one.”
“Well no because I kind of told Valve I’d do it,” Hall replied with a laugh, “so… I kinda have to, right?”
This other title is the VR project and Hall added “[Valve’s] Chet Faliszek was like a huge mentor to me. He contacted me very early on in DayZ’s development and he’s been all through everything – he’s been a huge mentor. And I actually got a chance to seem him speak, and I spoke myself, at Slush Play [a gaming and VR conference] in Iceland. And, to be honest, that was the final convincing for me. So I really liked what he had to say.”
Hall declined to share details on the VR game.
