Were you hoping to see Beyond Good and Evil 2 from Ubisoft this E3? We have some bad news on that front.
It seems progress on the game has stalled completely. Ubisoft implied in an interview that game designer Michael Ancel is not working on the game at all. At least, he is busy with his own projects, having founded his own studio independent of Ubisoft called Wild Sheep. They did indicate before that Ancel has a new property in the works under the two companies, so he hasn’t left Ubisoft, but he may no longer be working on the sequel.
These are the exact quotes from Ubisoft Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Tony Key regarding Ancel:
So he's a busy guy right now. But no…. He's got things going on and I can't really comment on his bandwidth. I know he's very busy. We still work with him on things.
There's just nothing to talk about right now. We don't really have anything to say. We appreciate how much people really want it.
Furthermore, in a Gamespot roundtable, rumor has sprung up that the project has essentially been abandoned. The studio working on Beyond Good and Evil 2 have apparently already moved on to projects outside of Ubisoft. While Gamespot’s Tamoor Hussain could not corroborate the rumor completely, apparently the sources have led him to believe it’s true.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 was unveiled as far back as 2008, and its status has been characterized by uncertainty as early as 2010. As late as July 2014, Ubisoft has asserted that the game was still in development.
