Ubisoft unveiled For Honor, their new original IP, in today’s E3 presentation. We have a trailer demonstrating how gameplay mechanics work for the game.
The appeal of the game is easy to understand from the get go. Play as either a knight, Viking, or samurai, and engage in a war between large factions in online multiplayer. The game does not skimp on the violence, allowing you to decapitate enemies if you choose to. You can play male or female, but it remains to be seen if other personalization options will be available.
However, gameplay is actually very intuitive and twitchy in conception. Using the right stick, you choose to attack or defend top, left, or right. This scheme allows you to not only react instantly, but take on multiple enemies. In between battles you can survey the battlefield to find out if your faction is winning or not; or find other enemies to take on. There are also communication tools to challenge other players.
Dominion mode was demonstrated for this little preview. In dominion mode, you play 4 versus 4, and try to take control of the battlefield by taking three control zones. Later on in the game, it is revealed that both team’s scores are past 1000. That means both teams are breaking, and in this state players are prevented from respawning. This is the turning point of the match, as the remaining players will keep fighting until one side is left standing, the winner.
The game was actually leaked a few months ago, but that leak definitely spoiled very little of the final product.
For Honor will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows via Uplay. You can sign up here for the open beta today.
