In a new interview with GamesRadar, Uncharted creative director Shaun Escayg is hinting at the possibility of a new game sometime in the future. While discussing Uncharted: The Legacy Collection, Escayg and lead Kurt Margenau commented on the possibility of a new installment.
“I think we can say for certain that we can never say never,” Escayg stated. “Yeah. Uncharted is a franchise we love – that the studio loves. I love, and Kurt loves. It’s a world we want to see more of. So I can certainly say that,” Margenau added.
In April 2021, rumors began swirling about a potential new Uncharted game already in the works. A report claimed that Bend Studio, the development team behind Days Gone, had been approached to develop a new title in the franchise, though they later requested to be taken off the project. It’s unclear whether another studio has taken control of the project or if it has been scrapped entirely.
Earlier this month, Naughty Dog teased multiple games in production, although the company wasn’t specific on what those games are exactly. The studio’s co-president Neil Druckmann appeared at Sony’s CES 2022 presentation to tease the upcoming Uncharted film adaptation and the highly-anticipated The Last of Us TV series coming to HBO. Upon leaving the stage, he addressed the audience. “We’re dying to share with you the multiple game projects we have in the works at Naughty Dog,” he said.
In the meantime, the Uncharted film starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg is scheduled to release in theaters on February 18, 2022. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection will be coming to PlayStation 5 tomorrow, January 28, and includes Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The game will include a number of graphical updates including a Fidelity mode, allowing fans to play the game on a 4K display at 30 FPS, a higher framerate patch allowing PS4 versions to run at 60 FPS, and a Performance+ mode targeting 120 FPS at a 1080p resolution.
