Ubisoft’s mischievous Rabbids, also known as Raving Rabbids, are getting ready to take a trip to Mars in the upcoming Netflix special, Rabbids Invasion: Mission to Mars. The hour-long animated feature will release next month on the streaming website. Check out the new trailer below.
Rabbids Invasion: Mission to Mars will follow four animated Rabbids as they are recruited to complete a mission to Mars and begin a terraforming project. According to Ubisoft’s description of the film, “When Nebulous Industries announces they are recruiting Rabbids for a mission to Mars, Beardie doesn’t think twice. As a genius Rabbid misunderstood by his stupid peers, he has always dreamed of going to the red planet. After successfully passing the tests, he takes off with three other Rabbids: Disco, the lively queen of the dancefloor, Cosmo, the pilot with self-confidence issues, and Mini, the adorable tiny Rabbid who HATES being mistaken for a kid.”
Why do humans choose to send Rabbids? Well according to the trailer, “The advantage is that they’re indestructible so they can survive without the need for full spacesuits.” As you can probably guess, not everything goes exactly to plan. Rabbids Invasion: Mission to Mars has the characters “Facing an interplanetary space threat, our heroes will have to learn how to overcome their differences and understand that the true wisdom comes from the heart!”
The new animated short film appears to be a separate project to the Rabbids feature film Ubisoft has been developing since 2014. Although, there’s no news on the film as reports say it has been in development hell for years. The last anyone heard from the project was back in December 2019 when Lionsgate and Ubisoft brought on Robot Chicken writers Matt Senreich, Tom Sheppard, and Zeb Wells to write the script.
In happier news for fans of Rabbids, the upcoming Nintendo Switch game Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope is currently in development and due to release later this year.
