Rumors surrounding Hogwarts Legacy have been all over the place of late. First, it was rumored that the game would be delayed to 2023. Then came the rumors that it would in fact be released this year. Now, directly from the horse’s mouth, Hogwarts Legacy has been re-confirmed for a 2022 release. Check out the full statement from the official Harry Potter website, Wizarding World below.
“2022 is also the year when the highly anticipated console game from Warner Bros. Games’ Portkey Games label, Hogwarts Legacy, is set to be released. Developed by Avalanche Software, this action RPG allows players to be at the centre of their own adventure set during the late 1800s wizarding world. From learning powerful spells and brewing potions, to honing combat skills and taming magical beasts, this game will allow players to experience the magical world as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry like never before as they determine the fate of the entire wizarding world.”
Of course, as the last couple of years has shown. A release date isn’t set in stone until the game is actually in people’s hands. However, this is as much confirmation as gamers are going to get that Hogwarts Legacy is indeed still going to be released this year.
Hogwarts Legacy was previously slated to come out in 2021 so a further delay to 2023 would suggest that development really isn’t going well. It’s rumored that more details may be revealed about the game next month. Sony is supposedly holding a State of Play event in February and Hogwarts Legacy is one of the games tipped to lead the show. Since Hogwarts Legacy has been re-confirmed for 2022, it’s possible that a release date is revealed at Sony’s State of Play event.
Hogwart’s Legacy is scheduled for release sometime this year. The game will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
