Farm51 has released the latest update for the survival-sandbox game Chernobylite. The new feature update is named Chernobylite: Monster Hunt. This will be the first free content update that players have received for the game. The update was announced by uploading a trailer for the new content on the All in! Games YouTube page. The game now has six packs expansion packs with only the latest one being free.
In the Monster Hunt update, players will face new enemies and receive a new side quest. The patch introduces three new creatures across the eerie sandbox, which include the Chernohost, Overgrown Duster, and Ancient Shadow. Each one of the new enemies has its own set of powers and weaknesses. The new update also brings in many bug fixes to increase the quality of the gameplay.
Chernobylite is a science-fiction survival horror RPG developed by The Farm 51 and published by All in! Games. The game is set in the hyper-realistic, 3D-scanned wasteland of Chernobyl’s Exclusion Zone where the radio-active incident occurred. In this game, you get to explore a non-linear storyline in your search to uncover the truth of your tortured past.
The game was released on 28 July 2021 for Microsoft Windows and on 28 September 2021 for the PlayStation 4 & Xbox One. There is a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S version coming at a later date.
In this game, the player’s objective is to explore, as Ukrainian physicist Igor Khymynuk, and find his fiancée in the radioactive wasteland.
Farm 51 started a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to help fund the development of the game. On 11 May 2019, the Kickstarter campaign ended and it managed to raise $206,671 in total from 3,350 backers. This exceeded the $100,000 target needed to continue development.
The description of the new enemies and the new quest according to the steam patch notes:
- New enemy: Feral Chernohost. Watch out! You’re not alone in this forest. This monster usually spawns outdoors. When you see its green, glowing head, it means survival is about to get real. Feral Chernohost is extremely fast and it’s hard to escape him running in a straight line – try running in a zig-zag instead.
- New Enemy: Overgrown Duster. It can spawn anywhere, as long as there’s a flat surface, so watch out for building rooftops or decayed vehicles. It’s small and attacks from a distance, which helps it blend into the background, making the monster even more dangerous. Overgrown Duster has also the ability to disappear.
- New enemy: Ancient Shadow. It usually spawns indoors and likes to hide in the dark corners of buildings, so bring your flashlight and don’t get lost. Ancient Shadow is slow, but don’t be fooled – the monster can gain speed by glitching when moving.
- New side quests: MONSTER HUNT. This new quest draws less frequently than regular food drops. After drawing it, the player must defeat one of the three monsters mentioned above. Each one can appear on any given level in three specific spots. Killing the monster ends the mission.
