Master of Orion Reboot Announced by Wargaming

June 9, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

To be developed by Argentina-based NGD Studios.

A reboot of the Master of Orion series was announced by publisher Wargaming, known for its free-to-play MMO World of Tanks, today.

The rights to the Master of Orion intellectual property was purchased by Wargaming during an Atari bankruptcy auction in 2013. After more than a decade of owning the property, Wargaming finally announced what it plans to do with it.

However, Wargaming is not developing the reboot. Instead, Argentinian developer NGD Studios is with key people from the original game’s development team. The reboot will also see the return of the original game’s composer, composing and all new orchestral score.

Other additions and improvements players will see when the game launches include enhanced visuals, a new user interface, voiceovers by “well-known actors,” new user tutorials, and more.

“Master of Orion is a game that brings Wargaming truly back to its roots, not only as a company but also in how it influenced my personal interest in both games and making them,” said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming. “The series’ iconic gameplay has stood the test of time and working with NGD Studios to bring the series back to life is a truly exciting moment for the team.”

Co-founder and CEO of NGD Studios Andrés Chilkowski said that both returning players and newcomers to the series will enjoy this reboot.

Master of Orion is available for pre-order on the official website, but there has been no mention of an official release date.
