Team Meat's indie smash hit Super Meat Boy is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita later this year, the developer announced today on the PlayStation Blog.
Tommy Refenes, co-founder of Team Meat, writes, "We actually never ever EVER thought this day would come and it makes us both so happy that it's finally here! We know this has been a long time coming but better late than never. Expect to be playing Super Meat Boy on your PS4 and PS Vita later this year."
Refenes goes on to say that Super Meat Boy will be free via the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection. Refenes adds that this is their way of saying, “Thank you for waiting patiently” to PlayStation fans.
Two years ago Refenes had slightly different things to say about developing for PS4 and consoles generally, commenting at the time, “When you look at PlayStation and Xbox and Nintendo you have to buy thousand dollar dev kits and pay for certification and pay for testing and pay for localisation – you have to do all these things and at the end of the day it’s like, ‘I could have developed for other platforms and it would’ve been easier'.”
These days the platform holders often give dev kits freely away to developers and that may have sparked Team Meat's interest in bringing Super Meat Boy to PS4 and Vita.
