Grand Theft Auto V was just released for PC this year, and already the modders have gone to town with it. These hobbyist game developers modify games even without official support from Rockstar Games, and they’ve turned out some pretty cool stuff. Modders have given us the gravity gun and the ability to drift using any vehicle, but there are also less pleasant mods that could snag you a computer virus. Using mods can get you banned, but Rockstar has been a little unclear about why they decide to bring out the banhammer at times.
Some mods seem cool enough to risk getting banned for, though. A new mod has appeared, and it looks like it’s about to change the GTA V landscape quite literally. GTA Modder NTAuthority posted an easy-to-follow guide that will allow you to bring custom maps into the game using a utility called FiveM.
As proof that it does work, NTAuthority brought the city map of 1999’s Grand Theft Auto: London, 1969 into 2015. Plenty of other players have tried it as well, and though it’s a little buggy, it generally functions. There’s obviously going to be a big difference in quality since the map is from 15 years ago, but it opens up the possibility of adding other maps.
It’s still pretty new and could use a little more work, but would you be willing to give this mod a try?
