Lords of the Fallen 2 is being planned for a 2017 release, while sales of the original game have now passed 900,000 since launch in October, 2014.
Deck 13, co-developer of the original, will not be involved in the sequel's development. CI Games head Marek Tyminski told Eurogamer, "We are over 900,000 units. Not yet 1m but we are approaching that. And definitely it's a good start for the new IP. Definitely we can say that Lords of the Fallen 1 proved the IP made sense."
Discussing the Deck 13 situation, Tyminski added, "We are not working with Deck 13 right now. We are starting the project, we start from the concepting, but we definitely will be working with a lot of partners."
Studios in both China and the UK were also involved in the original game's development, but the main team at CI Games were responsible for the original title's vision, as well as publishing duties and marketing.
"We're taking all of the lessons from Lords of the Fallen 1 to make," Tyminski continued, "first of all, a much better game, and second, to make it more efficient from the production perspective.
"We plan to release the game in 2017," he said. "We learnt not to say about the release date too early, so we will only be announcing the release date of each particular game when we will be close enough and we will be sure the game will be on time."
A Game of the Year edition of Lords of the Fallen will be released on June 26th.
