Game Hubs and More to Come in June Update for Windows 10’s Xbox App

May 25, 2015 by Michael Fossbakk

Game hubs for individual games, keyboard shortcuts, and more included.

Microsoft has detailed what will be included in next month’s update for the Xbox app on Windows 10, which includes game hubs, keyboard shortcut reassignment, and more.

The biggest addition to this update is the inclusion of game hubs for individual games that can show you achievements for said game, which of your friends are playing that game, and more. This feature has been a part of the Xbox One itself since launch.

While the last update to the Xbox app brought with it access to Game DVR, Microsoft’s video recording/editing software for Xbox One, this update will allow users to bring up the Game DVR with a quick keyboard shortcut, which can also be reassigned to a shortcut of your choosing (another new feature of the June update). Keyboard shortcut reassignment can also be used for things like calling up the Game Hub or taking a screenshot.

If you’re one who enjoys customizing their Xbox Avatar to their liking, then you’ll be happy to know you’ll be able to do that on your Windows 10 device, too. While the Avatars app will be accessible from the Xbox app, it will still ask you to download the Avatars app separately.

Finally, the June update also brings diagnostic information sending, specifically information relating to streaming your Xbox One games to your Windows 10 PC. According to Microsoft, you will be sending them "information about your PC's performance and connectivity characteristics as we prepare to enable game streaming from Xbox One to Windows 10 PCs." Microsoft notes that this information is completely anonymous and will only help its developers improve this feature before its official launch.

The Xbox app on Windows 10 devices was announced in January and is currently only available to those in the Windows Insider program, who are able to test Windows 10 prior to the operating system’s release this summer, and will be a free upgrade for those currently running Windows 7 and 8.
