Last year, fans were hoping for Kingdom Hearts 3 to show up at E3. All we got was a quick trailer at the end of their presentation. Kingdom Hearts 3’s presence wasn’t felt much in 2014, which left some Kingdom Hearts fans a bit disappointed. Square Enix was more focused on Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 remix at the time, but they did promise we’ll get a lot more news on KH3 in 2015.
Square Enix has confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 3 will be at D23 Expo in Japan later this year, but isn’t it a bit unkind to make your fans wait longer? It’s not a delay in release, which would be understandable, given their determination to present players with a well-polished gem of a game. It’s just that there’s barely anything to show for it. Director Tetsuya Nomura said that the game was announced too early back in 2013, and now the fans are getting impatient. The fans want to see something, instead of getting excited over just the thought of it.
Nomura has mentioned before that every time he hears of Disney’s new acquisitions, he asks if it would be possible to include that in KH3. If you’ll recall, Disney has acquired Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Entertainment, and Lucasfilm in recent years. This opens up a wealth of options for new worlds. Maybe we’ll be getting worlds based on Marvel comics or Star Wars? Maybe that’s why they’re keeping so quiet. It would definitely be a pleasant surprise, if they pull it off.
There is still no confirmed news from the developers on Kingdom Hearts 3 showing up at E3 this year, and many are hoping that the lack of news directly addressing the game’s presence at the event is an indication that it will be included in the lineup. The confirmation that it will be shown at D23 Expo has given rise to arguments leaning heavily towards the negative. They’ll have multiple opportunities to bring out Kingdom Hearts 3, and we’re hoping they take it. For now, we'll just have to wait and see.
